I’m American. I live right in the southwest and let me tell you, it’s hell over here right now, but it will become a lot worse if Article 13 is passed.
You’ve probably heard about Article 13, and if you haven’t, go watch this video right now. Whatever you’re doing can wait for sixteen minutes and two seconds, because a second-long vote could destroy everything online.
Whether you’re from Europe or not, this law could affect you, so you should care Article 13 because it is going to destroy the online lives that you have built. No more posting memes, no more remixes, and no more YouTubers from anywhere.

How to Basic.
All of your favorite content creators are at risk of losing their jobs because people want stricter laws on copyright, which will support the larger media companies but kill smaller creators. And because of this, we may lose everything online.
So spread the word! Reblog this, reblog other people’s posts, find petitions, write your own posts! If you’re in Europe, contact your MEP’s and get them to understand how it will affect the people who use the internet.
I hope you all realize this is more than just “losing memes and fan art”
This affects how content is shared online. Period. This is censorship. If this is implemented it opens the door to the government deciding what you can share and when.
“Web services large and small might decide to implement the directive globally, which would diminish American users’ capacity to share memes, political satire, or news articlesonline.” (Meaning due to the European law, websites might just change how they operate world wide, so the rules placed on them they will probabaly inforce in countries who don’t have the law)
If this could affect Americans in this way, imagine how heavy handed it will be on those who actually live in Europe??
This is a way to control what you do, say, think and read. It’s put under the disguise of “copyright” protection, but you are a fool if you think that’s what this really is.
For those that don’t know, this is a video by a YouTube channel named Studio C, they created a character called Scott Sterling or it might his real name idk
This video here is called: “Best Volleyball Blocks Ever with Scott Sterling”
As of today, November 17, 2018, any post with links, any links, even to other tumblr posts, just don’t show up anymore in tumblr’s search engine.
I just found out about it, after I posted a fic with a link to my masterlist and it got little to no notes (it shuldn’t). I was right - the moment I deleted the links, my post magically appeared in the search again. Wow.
This affects artists who want to cross promote their work, writers who want to link to previous chapters or to a masterlist, and editors who want to link to their YouTube channels, among just a few. This new policy will kill content creators’ ability to spread their work, and for what? A poor attempt to use the algorithm to crack down on porn bots and scammers? Sad.
In the meantime, here’s what I suggest: post your work with no added links, and tell people to check the notes for your masterlist, story navigation, links to ko-fi, patreon, and other social media sites. Make sure you have all those things ready, then paste it into a reblog and have people access them that way. It’s stupid, but it’s a work around we’ll have to use until tumblr gets their act together.
Reblogging again because I need advice on creating masterpost links.
Oh, lovely. I put inks in my posts all the time, to link back to my sources and references.
Wonderful.
With tumblr making it harder for people selling their goods (art, pins, merch, whatever) it’s SO IMPORTANT now that if you see someone on your dash that you want to help, or that needs help, that you now reblog the post while it’s on your dash. With that artist no longer visible in tags they have to rely purely on the people who follow them to spread the word. It’s more important than ever to reblog an artist’s work.
I was wondering why the new chapter of something I posted last night got way less notes than usual. I thought it was just because I posted late. What the flying frack tumblr.
